{"id":18429,"date":"2024-12-31T21:23:54","date_gmt":"2024-12-31T21:23:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=18429"},"modified":"2025-02-15T22:55:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-15T22:55:00","slug":"the-secretary-general-message-for-new-years-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=18429","title":{"rendered":"The Secretary-General Message for New Years 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_16786\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16786\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-16786\" src=\"http:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Antonio-Guterres-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16786\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SG Anthony Guetaras<br \/>secretary general sg<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">New York,Vienna,UNIS,Sharief,31 December 2024<\/p>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\"><\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">Throughout 2024, hope has been hard to find.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">Wars are causing enormous pain, suffering and displacement.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">Inequalities and divisions are rife \u2014 fueling tensions and mistrust.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">And today I can officially report that we have just endured a decade of deadly heat.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">The top ten 10 hottest years on record have happened in the last 10 years, including 2024.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">This is climate breakdown \u2014 in real time.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">We must exit this road to ruin \u2014 and we have no time to lose.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">In 2025, countries must put the world on a safer path by dramatically slashing emissions and supporting the transition to a renewable future.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">It is essential \u2014 and it is possible.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">Even in the darkest days, I\u2019ve seen hope power change.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">I see hope in activists \u2014 young and old \u2014 raising their voices for progress.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">I see hope in the humanitarian heroes overcoming enormous obstacles to support the most vulnerable people.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">I see hope in developing countries fighting for financial and climate justice.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">I see hope in the scientists and innovators breaking new ground for humanity.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">And I saw hope in September, when world leaders came together to adopt the Pact for the Future.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">The Pact is a new push to build peace through disarmament and prevention.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">To reform the global financial system so it supports and represents all countries.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">To push for more opportunities for women and young people.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">To build guardrails so technologies put people over profits and rights over runaway algorithms.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">And always, to stick to the values and principles enshrined by human rights, international law and the United Nations Charter.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">There are no guarantees for what\u2019s ahead in 2025.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">But I pledge to stand with all those who are working to forge a more peaceful, equal, stable and healthy future for all people.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">Together, we can make 2025 a new beginning.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">Not as a world divided.<\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"auto\">But as nations united.<\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York,Vienna,UNIS,Sharief,31 December 2024 Throughout 2024, hope has been hard to find.
