{"id":17782,"date":"2022-12-17T21:48:14","date_gmt":"2022-12-17T21:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=17782"},"modified":"2022-12-17T21:48:14","modified_gmt":"2022-12-17T21:48:14","slug":"the-secretary-general-message-for-international-migrants-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=17782","title":{"rendered":"The Secretary-General Message for International Migrants Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NIS\/HORNA\/Vienna-December 2022<\/p>\n<p>On this International Migrants Day, we reflect on the lives of the over 280 million people who left their country in the universal pursuit of opportunity, dignity, freedom, and a better life.<br \/>\nToday, over 80 per cent of the world\u2019s migrants cross borders in a safe and orderly fashion.<br \/>\nThis migration is a powerful driver of economic growth, dynamism, and understanding.<br \/>\nBut unregulated migration along increasingly perilous routes \u2013 the cruel realm of traffickers \u2013 continues to extract a terrible cost.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16786\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16786\" style=\"width: 195px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16786\" src=\"http:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Antonio-Guterres-1-195x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"195\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Antonio-Guterres-1-195x300.jpg 195w, https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Antonio-Guterres-1.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 195px) 100vw, 195px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16786\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SG Anthony Guetaras<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over the past eight years, at least 51,000 migrants have died \u2013 and thousands more have disappeared.<br \/>\nBehind each number is a human being \u2013 a sister, brother, daughter, son, mother, or father.<br \/>\nMigrant rights are human rights.
