{"id":17719,"date":"2022-09-23T19:04:20","date_gmt":"2022-09-23T19:04:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=17719"},"modified":"2022-09-23T19:04:20","modified_gmt":"2022-09-23T19:04:20","slug":"sao-tome-and-principe-becomes-176th-country-to-ratify-ctbt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=17719","title":{"rendered":"S\u00c3O TOM\u00c9 AND PR\u00cdNCIPE BECOMES 176TH COUNTRY TO RATIFY CTBT"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Vienna\/HORNA\/Sept.2022<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe has ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), raising the total number of ratifications to 176, bringing Africa one step closer to universalisation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Central African state is a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and a signatory to the African Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone, referred to as the Treaty of Pelindaba. Its ratification of the CTBT highlights the country\u2019s role as a strong supporter of the nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament regime.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-17720 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/CTBTO-300x167.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/CTBTO-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/CTBTO-768x427.png 768w, https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/CTBTO.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The ratification took place on 22 September 2022 during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly High-level week in New York.
