{"id":17480,"date":"2022-02-25T16:17:13","date_gmt":"2022-02-25T16:17:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=17480"},"modified":"2022-05-21T13:24:07","modified_gmt":"2022-05-21T13:24:07","slug":"iaea-director-general-statement-on-the-situation-in-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/?p=17480","title":{"rendered":"IAEA Director General Statement on the Situation in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Vienna, Austria\/HORNA<\/em><\/p>\n<p><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-17481 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/IAEA-300x167.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/IAEA-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/IAEA-768x427.png 768w, https:\/\/uncav-vienna.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/IAEA.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is following the situation in Ukraine with grave concern and is appealing for maximum restraint to avoid any action that may put the country\u2019s nuclear facilities at risk, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said today.<\/p>\n<p>In line with its mandate, the IAEA is closely monitoring developments in Ukraine with a special focus on the safety and security of its nuclear power plants and other nuclear-related facilities, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukraine regulatory body, the counterpart, has earlier informed the IAEA that it is maintaining communications with Ukraine\u2019s operational nuclear power plants, which it said are operating safely and securely.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the situation at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Ukraine has informed the IAEA that \u201dunidentified armed forces\u201d have taken control of all facilities of the State Specialized Enterprise Chornobyl NPP, located within the Exclusion Zone. The counterpart added that there had been no casualties nor destruction at the industrial site.
